Lisa Blair - Climate Action in Antarctic Waters

Lisa Blair holds the record of being the first and fastest woman, and third person ever, to circumnavigate the 16,000 nautical mile (29,000-kilometre) route around Antarctica. She completed this voyage in 92 days in 2022 in her 50 foot (15 metre) vessel Climate Action Now.

In partnership with the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and Integrated Marine Observing Systems (IMOS), Lisa Blair also completed the first near-continuous microplastic survey in Southern Ocean waters in 2022. To date, this is the most comprehensive microplastics dataset for the Antarctic region both in number of samples analysed and their spatial coverage.

Head up to Blackmores First Lady to see a collection of material from Lisa’s voyages including what's left of her broken mast, the product of a near fatal dismasting in the Southern Ocean while in 8 meter seas in 2017, and examples of microplastics like those collected during her voyages.
