A self-guided visit to the museum includes access to the permanent galleries, special temporary exhibitions and HMAS Vampire. Self-guided visits cost $12 per student and must be pre-booked.

If you would like to board other vessels during your self-guided visit, please enquire at the time of booking.

 

Program structure

There is no set structure for this program. A self-guided visit gives teachers and students the freedom to discover the museum independently and in your own time.  

 

Self-guided Resources

To enhance your experience, download and print our FREE student worksheets and teacher resources to guide you through the galleries. 

  • All activities are linked to the Australian Curriculum.
  • Please bring your own pencils for completing the student worksheets.  
  • Teacher resources include exhibition information, Australian Curriculum links, wayfinding and answers for student activities. 

Accessing the self-guided resources

  • Before your visit: Download and print the student worksheets and teacher resources at school. 
    We recommend that you print the student worksheets double-sided, on A3 paper. Worksheets can also be printed on A4 paper.
  • At the museum: Collect printed copies of the student worksheets and teacher resources from the front desk. 
    Please note, teacher resource booklets must be returned to the front desk at the end of your visit.

Booking information

Duration: There is no set duration for a self-guided visit. We recommend at least 1 hour. 

Cost: $12 per student. Teachers / supervisors are FREE.

Ratio: The supervisor to student ratio is 1:15. Students must be accompanied by a supervisor at all times.

Accessibility: There is ramp and lift access to all exhibition spaces within the main museum building.  Unfortunately, due to the vessel design and walkways on the vessels, wheelchair access is not available. Virtual tours of HMB Endeavour and Duyfken can be accessed here.

Safety considerations:  Teachers and supervisors are responsible for student safety at all times. Please remind students to walk along the wharves and boardwalk, as outdoor surfaces may be slippery or uneven. We recommend that students apply sunscreen before arriving at the museum and wear sunhats when outside at the museum.
