Acknowledgement of Country

The Australian National Maritime Museum acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora nation as the Traditional Custodians of the bamal (earth) and badu (waters) on which we work.

We also acknowledge all Traditional Custodians of the land and waters throughout Australia and pay our respects to them and their cultures, and to Elders past and present.

Voyages between Cairns and Darwin

July – September 2020

Retracing Cook’s 1770 voyage – these voyages explore the north eastern coastline past Possession Island charted by Cook in 1770 before continuing through the Gulf of Carpentaria and arriving in Darwin. 

Departing Cairns on 21st July, the Endeavour will visit Cooktown for the Cooktown Expo then explore the Cape York region visiting Lizard Island, Thursday Island, Possession Island, Weipa, Aurukun and Yirrkala before arriving in Darwin mid-September.

Highlights:
• Sailing through the Great Barrier Reef
• Negotiating complex currents
• Good sailing around the Gulf
• South Westerly winds across to Darwin

Note: Booking accommodation in Cooktown pre and post arrival may be difficult due to the Cooktown Expo.
