Jan 21 2022

Freedom Sessions features performers from refugee, migrant and First Nations backgrounds.

Join us at the Australian National Maritime Museum for a Sydney Festival edition of the New Beginnings: Freedom Sessions, a series of performances and artist discussions featuring talented performers who come from refugee, migrant and First Nations backgrounds. With a live performance by BARKAA and down-to-earth interviews by New Beginnings Ambassador Shyamla Eswaran, this thought-provoking session is not to be missed.

Less than two years on the scene and it’s already hard to imagine Australian hip hop without BARKAA. With tracks like 'OUR LIVES MATTER' and 'For My Tittas', this fiery First Nations rapper speaks to the moment, striking a chord with a new generation. Extending beyond live performance, The New Beginnings Freedom Sessions offers artists like BARKAA the opportunity to foster their creativity, express their truth and share their talent with the wider community.

Each session comprises of a live performance followed by genuine, down to earth interviews and discussion by New Beginnings Ambassador Shyamla Eswaran.
