EAST AUSTRALIAN CURRENT

In years gone by
I started beyond the coral reefs
Carrying the birth of life
Feeding with the warm water
I held the whispers of the waves
Secrets of the sky

Each season I would change
Summer growing strong and fierce
Winter weak and feeble

Today I flow fast and powerful
Time picking up my pace
From the warm peaks of the north
The cold depths of the south
Riding the expressway
Song of Whales
Stories of seals
Poems of penguins
With promises of plankton
As I grow in strength and wisdom
My fierce force is felt
My mighty current will dominate the coast
A continuous moving walkway
But dangers lurk within my flow
They take too much in their sweeping nets
They leave nothing but plastic and the fallen

My future lies in your seaworthy hands
To protect and to preserve the life that flows with me
As my current twists and turns
Down the east Australian coast.
