Sea Kin – Rock Oyster
Transcript
SYDNEY ROCK OYSTER: Hi, everyone. I'm Sydney rock oyster I am doing house interviews today. My house has a good ocean view. It's on the second level of the sea walls and it's got lots of little holes to play in and lots of places to hide out too, from predators. I love to clean. I can clean up to 200 liters of water a day.
It's pretty great. I'm pretty great and I offer lots of space. So that's me. What's your name?
BARNACLE: Thank you. My name is Ben, and I'm a barnacle. And I am very eager to join this house.
SRO: Okay. So, so how do you handle household chores?
BARNACLE: Usually, I don’t eat algae. I usually eat plankton and phytoplankton. But even if I did, I would try very hard to restrain myself first.
SRO: Okay, so how do you handle household chores?
BARNACLE: I love chores. I do a lot of them. Like filtering water. So everybody has clean water. And I'm very focused on whatever I'm doing.
SRO: Do you enjoy living with others, or do you prefer to live by yourself?
BARNACLE: I enjoy living with others. I don't take up a lot of space, and I'm very friendly. For me, I value keeping my house clean and catching my prey,
SRO: Okay.
BARNACLE: I usually, um, eat plankton and phytoplankton and I trap the prey using my Siri, which is like feathery legs. And then I could always share them out to the other house share creatures.
SRO: Okay. Thank you. Come in. Welcome. Can you tell me about yourself?
OYSTER BLENNY: Hi. I am the Oyster Blenny. Um, I stay in empty oyster shells and I don't take up a lot of space because I stay in one spot. I really love living with oysters because they're protective.
And if I ever feel unsafe, they'll just keep me away from predators. But I prefer to be erm, an individual oyster blenny. But I don't mind having to live with other species and sea creatures as a housemate. I love algae.
SRO: That's good to hear. Thank you. Hi. What's your name? And can you introduce yourself?
LIMPET: Oh Yeah. I'm Leo. The Limpet.
There are over 1200 species of me. I belong to the Mollusc family, like the oyster, you and Sydney octopus, though. That is a bit weird. I don't quite get that. The barnacle is a different type of group than me. Not a mollusc. Though we both got shells. I guess that's something that we both have in common. And yeah, I can move around.
I can come and go. I have really good homing instincts. I can visit you whenever you want me to visit you. I can rotate my shell if you want. Entertainment. I do love eating algae, if I do have algae as a roommate, I would, maybe I might get a little carried away and eat it. But I will eat it. I do hope that's not a problem.
SRO: I’m sure it will be fine. From my experience Algae does tend to be a little all over the place but very generous providers. You all seem fabulous… When can you move in?
