Old Bream: Hello little Tiddler

Tiddler: Hello Grandma

Old Bream: It’s time I give you some advice so you can live to a grand old age like me.

Tiddler: Thank you grandma but what are you talking about?

Bream: I thought you’d be excited to get my advice? I'm over 25 years old don’t you know!

Tiddler: I am happy, but I’m just confused how do you know all this information and I’m not sure if this is going to be a bunch of nonsense.

Bream: Hark! I’ve been in many situations where I’ve learnt a thing or two. I once escaped a Fisher man and had to jump off in midair!

Tiddler: Really, how did you do that?

Old Bream: It took a lot of effort, but I had to wriggle off the hook. It was all a mistake by me, because I ate a prawn without a head which was really a fisherman’s lure. Fishermen try and catch us because they like to eat us. The other day they caught my brother and probably ate him.

Tiddler: Oh, that's horrible, I don't want to be eaten!  What other advice would you give?

Old Bream: You should beware of big sharks, large sea animals and seabirds.

Tiddler: So, should I live in places like shallow waters and sea grasses of Sydney Harbor because larger sea creatures can’t live in places like this?

Old Bream: Yes, yes, but in truth, we Bream can live in every part of this here Harbour, it’s helpful we’re not fussy eaters. The Jetties, wharves, weedy reefs and mangroves are also make perfectly happy homes for us Yellowfins. Though it must be said, once I settled in this here spot, I haven’t had the itchy fin to explore further. I know this patch of harbour very well.   Which brings me to my final advice for you…

Tiddler: Thank you grandma

Old Bream: It’s a good practice to linger around near dogs… but not too close! They kick up the sea bed when they run in the water which releases great sources of food for you, so you grow up sturdy and possibly even a become big old fertile female fish like me.

Tiddler: I’m so surprised Grandma that you have all this knowledge. Thank you so much!

Old Bream: That's the ticket!  You’re welcome, little Tiddler. Now off with the school you go.
