A selection of questions and activities to guide class inquiries about what we have learnt from Encounters 2020 and the effects Cook’s voyage had on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Sample questions may include:
 - How does the past affect and influence the future?
 - How can our understanding of the past bring about positive change for people and places in the future?
 - What steps can we take for reconciliation?

Overview

Reimagining our past; first encounters and the lasting effects offers new ways to recognise and respect the many cultures of modern Australia. Today we travel towards reconciliation; strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous peoples, to share pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures and embrace the stories of our country - for the benefit of all Australians.

Key inquiry question:
How do the effects of the past influence the future?
 - Engage with Reconciliation Australia and the Narragunnawali program that offers support to schools in developing environments that foster a higher level of knowledge and pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions.

Key inquiry question:
How can our understanding of the past bring about positive change for people and places in the future?

Encounters with artistic expression by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people provide opportunities to hear the stories from another point of view. Use your voice for taking action towards reconciliation.

Engage with the Collaborative Art Project (Primary) | Narragunnawali to strengthen the relationship between your school and local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Reflect - How does our artwork demonstrate respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and a sharing of cultures in a positive and meaningful way?
