Each school holidays, kids aged 8–14 can learn new creative skills with industry professionals and educators in our hands-on workshops.

The museum runs different 1 and 2 day workshops every school holidays.

Amulets and Adornments – Metalwork and Jewellery Workshop with Squarepeg Studios

1 day workshop

Thursday 9 July 
10am – 4pm 

Inspired by the extraordinary objects of the Galloway Hoard, participants will explore how jewellery and adornment have historically acted as symbols of protection, identity, storytelling, and personal meaning.

Beginning with a guided tour of our newest exhibition Treasure of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard, students will gather inspiration from the forms, textures, patterns, and symbolism found within the hoard before developing their own wearable contemporary object.

Participants will learn jewellery-making techniques including:

  • metal stamping
  • roller printing
  • texture making
  • light forming
  • finishing techniques

Students may create and take home:

  • pendant
  • cuff
  • open band ring

Using copper, brass, or aluminum. 

12–16 years (No previous experience is required)

General information

  • Please arrive in the museum foyer for registration 5–10 minutes prior to the program
  • Parents/carers will be required to sign permission forms on the day
  • Participants are fully supervised at all times during the programs
  • Participants should bring their own drinks, lunch and snacks
  • Please wear suitable clothing, sturdy shoes and sun protection for any time spent outdoors
  • All workshop materials are supplied
  • No printed tickets are necessary, we will check in via the guestlist
