Each school holidays, kids aged 8–14 can learn new creative skills with industry professionals and educators in our hands-on workshops.

The museum runs different 1 and 2 day workshops every school holidays. 

Wild Wears, Wearable Art Workshop with Deepsea Astronauts

1 day workshop

Wednesday 9 or Thursday 10 July  
10.00am – 4.00pm

Learn the basics of costume design and creation from award winning artist and performer Alli Sebastian Wolf of Deepsea Astronauts whose colourful costumed creatures have performed across Australia in this fun-filled 1-day costume making workshop. Be inspired by the animals in our newest exhibition Wildlife Photographer of the Year and transform recycled materials into your very own wearable designs.

Participants will parade their finished creature costume through the museum and bring it to life through performance and roving skills.

Suitable for ages 8–14

Cockatoo Island Adventures Photography Workshop

1 day workshop

Monday 14 or Tuesday 15 July 
10.00am – 4.30pm 

Ferry out to the spectacular shipyards of Cockatoo Island for an adventurous photography workshop. Build skills in using digital SLR cameras and learn indoor and outdoor photography techniques at this historic site. Visit the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition back at the museum to be inspired by nature photographers.

Have your favourite photos printed and exhibited in a special showcase at the museum.

This course is held in partnership with Spitting Image Photography and the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.

Suitable for ages 8–14 years (all levels of experience)

General information

  • Please arrive in the museum foyer for registration 5–10 minutes prior to the program
  • Parents/carers will be required to sign permission forms on the day
  • Participants are fully supervised at all times during the programs
  • Participants should bring their own drinks, lunch and snacks 
  • Please wear suitable clothing, sturdy shoes and sun protection for any time spent outdoors
  • All workshop materials are supplied
  • No printed tickets are necessary, we will check in via the guestlist
