Visit the museum
Whether you’re a family on an adventure, a local looking for something new or a visitor to Sydney, drop in and visit us and experience our world of ocean stories.
Stroll along the waterfront and jump on board our vessels, walk in the footsteps of our early explorers on the HMB Endeavour or descend below the depths of the sea in our submarine HMAS Onslow.
If ships aren’t your thing, visit our galleries and experience our historical artefacts that bring alive Australia’s deep connection to the sea, past and present. Don’t forget to ask about our special exhibitions curated for adults and kids, or plan ahead by checking out What’s On.
Pop in for a few hours or stay the whole day.

Availability and closures
Sometimes we may need to temporarily close areas of the museum - for maintenance, improvements or safety reasons. We thank you for your understanding and hope you enjoy the many adventures the museum offers.
Action Stations and vessels:
Temporary vessel closures will be in place as we continue work to transform Action Stations into the new Navy Pavilion. The new Navy Pavilion will offer visitors fresh ways to explore Australia’s naval stories, vessels and maritime heritage.
The Action Stations exhibition will be closed from Monday 19 October and will be replaced by our new Navy experience, opening in late 2026.
HMAS Vampire and Endeavour will be closed from Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October.
HMAS Onslow will be closed from Monday 19 October for approximately ten days.
Access may remain subject to change between 19 October and 28 November due to tide plans, ongoing installation activity and subcontractor schedules, but we will work to keep visits as smooth and consistent as possible.
Major developments like this can unfortunately disrupt the museum experience, and we apologise for any inconvenience. We thank visitors for their understanding while this important work is underway.
Vessel availability:
Check with our friendly staff on the day of your visit to confirm which vessels are open each day.
- Duyfken is currently undergoing maintenance. It is currently open for public visitation dependant on staff availability, but is unavailable for public sails or events. See our front of house team on the day of your visit for more information.
- Endeavour - Endeavour is currently berthed alongside HMAS Vampire and accessible to visitors via a gangway from HMAS Vampire’s deck. Extensive work is being undertaken on the standing rigging, however this work should not impact public visitation.
