Guided tour

This excursion will be available from 1 June to 9 October, 2026.

What can artefacts from the Viking Age tell us about the extent of exploration and trade at that time? What was the role of religion? What materials were used to make everyday and high-status objects, how far did these objects and their owners travel, and what does this tell us about everyday life at that time?

In 2026, bring the Viking Age to life for your students by bringing them to explore the Galloway Hoard at the Australian National Maritime Museum.

In this facilitated tour, aligned with the Stage 4 curriculum, students will:

  • Handle and explore replica Viking-age artefacts
  • Learn skills to help them interrogate sources
  • Look beyond the Viking-age stereotypes
  • Understand the significance of the Galloway Hoard and what it tells us about the people who hid this treasure away!

Why not make a day of it and take advantage of our discounted offer by booking your students into our Maritime Archaeology program or a Highlights tour of the Museum?
