Get an up-close look at the incredible work of the NSW Police Force Marine Area Command and the historic Police Diving Unit. The water police are bringing one of their new police boats from their Balmain base to the museum. You'll be able to step aboard and take a tour with the crew, who will be on hand to answer all your questions about patrolling and protecting the state's waterways.
Special Dive Unit 90th Anniversary Display
This visit is a special tie-in to the 90th anniversary of the NSW Police Diving Unit—the oldest police diving unit in the world!
On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, the boat will be joined by a diver's truck displaying specialised police diving equipment. You can meet members of the elite diving team, hear about their vital role in underwater search and recovery, and even watch live diver demonstrations in the water throughout the weekend!

The vessel and its sister boats are 34-tonne, state-of-the-art boats designed for the demands of the NSW Marine Area Command, with the WP21, or Vigilant, having a significant range of 900 nautical miles and a 5-day operational capacity. These boats are equipped for patrol, search and rescue, and are fitted with thermal imaging cameras to assist with locating objects on water, particularly at night.
The name "Vigilant" continues a tradition of naming NSW Water Police boats, with previous boats like 'Valiant' and 'Vigilant' from the 1960s
The Water Police fleet has been evolving from timber cruisers to modern, alloy-hulled vessels, and have undergone recent upgrades to its engine, surveillance, and communication systems.
