A barrister at the NSW Bar, James Emmett has been Senior Counsel since 2020. He practises from Banco Chambers in a range of areas including public and administrative law, general commercial law, and shipping and maritime law. In addition to his professional practice, he held teaching positions at the University of NSW over 2007–20, variously as a Visiting Fellow, Adjunct Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Associate Professor. In the not-for-profit sector, Mr Emmett’s board roles have included the Inner City Legal Centre Foundation (Chair, 2012–18), Artspace Visual Arts Centre (Chair, 2012–16), National Association for the Visual Arts (Chair, 2016–20), The Twenty10 Association (Director then Co-Chair, 2015–23), the NSW Bar Council (Bar Councillor, 2024-2025), and various committees of the NSW Bar Association.
