Meet creator of the “Aussie” Posters, Peter Drew

Celebrate History Week by exploring what it means to be truly Aussie!

You may have seen Peter Drew's "Aussie" posters on the streets in Sydney, Adelaide, or your local town. That's because Peter has spent the last 10 years putting up 5000 posters all over Australia! Join us in this interactive session, where Peter will share his motivations for creating his posters, how he makes them, and why they're so important for him. Along the way, students will learn about the history of migration in Australia, including the White Australia Policy and the changing attitudes towards migrants over the decades.

There will also be a chance to ask Peter questions throughout the session.

All students will need a blank piece of paper, a pencil and an eraser.

This session will start at 2pm for all states observing Australian Eastern Standard Time (NSW, ACT, Qld, Vic & Tas), 1.30pm for Schools in SA and NT and 12pm for WA.

About the presenter

Peter Drew is an Australian artist, most famous for the installation of his "Aussie" posters. Using photos from the National Archives of Australia, Peter mainly uses portraits of immigrants who attempted entry into Australia when the White Australia Policy was introduced in 1901. The aim of the posters is to invite people to question what is means to be Australian.
