Pre-visit activity: Personal connections

Whether you love them or hate them, crocodiles bring up strong reactions for many people.

Discuss: 

  • Have you ever seen a crocodile?
  • How do crocodiles make you feel?
  • What do you know about crocodiles?

Activity: 

Choose one word to represent your overall feelings about crocodiles. Explain the significance of your word with other students.

In your opinion, which of these two statements is the most true? 

Use a selection of the resources below, in addition to your own research, to create a research report justifying your answer. Your report can be in any format (e.g. essay, website, podcast, slideshow), and must: 

  • answer the question: should we fear crocs or fear for crocs?
  • use specific examples and/or statistics from one or more of these sources
  • provide your advice on actions to protect crocodiles and/or humans.

For each source, consider:

  • What type of source is this (e.g. news report, opinion piece, scientific research)?
  • What is the key message of this source?
  • Who created this source and what is their point of view on crocodiles?
  • When was this source created? Is it still relevant?
  • Is this a reliable source of information? Why/why not? 

Post-visit activity: Reflection

Write a narration for the video with drone footage of crocodiles in Western Australia .

Explain how your view on crocodiles has changed or stayed the same after visiting the exhibition, and address at least one of the key themes of the exhibition:

  • Human relationships with crocs across the world
  • First Nations knowledge of crocs
  • How to stay safe around crocs
  • Scientific knowledge about crocs
  • How crocs are portrayed in pop culture
  • The threats facing crocs and how we can protect them
  • Sustainability and conservation
