The Australian National Maritime Museum welcomes the announcement of additional funding for the remediation of the Museum’s Pyrmont Bay wharves by the Minister for the Arts, The Hon. Tony Burke MP.

The Museum is to receive an extra $10.1 million over two years for work to remedy age-related deterioration of its major wharves.

Ms Daryl Karp AM, Director and CEO said, ‘we want to thank the Australian Government for recognising the importance of the Australian National Maritime Museum as key to shaping the stories of our island nation shaped by sea. This extra funding ensures the safety of our wharfs and keeps our world-famous vessels and collection secure and accessible to visitors.

Chair of the Museum Council, The Hon Hieu Van Le AC said, ‘I thank the Minister and the Australian Government for this important investment. It is a strong affirmation of our shared responsibility to steward a national institution that belongs to all Australians, and to continue delivering public value from our remarkable harbour setting. It protects public assets today while ensuring the Museum remains accessible, welcoming and resilient for future generations.’
