Family program

Creative and educational activities for 2-5 year-olds and their parents/carers.

Set sail on a creative adventure designed especially for young children and their carers. Sing, move and explore the museum galleries with our costumed guides as you discover colourful artworks, fascinating objects and stories from the sea.

Each session includes songs, storytelling and hands-on creative activities where little mariners can make something special to take home.

Entry to Mini mariners includes access to exhibitions that are within the tour. During school holidays it also includes access to our Kids on Deck activity space.

March – Pirates Ahoy

Every Tuesday 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31
Saturdays 14 and 21

Let's follow the treasure map around the museum to find the secret treasure cave. Learn how to sing, dance and scrub the deck like a pirate. Then you can decorate your own pirate hat or parrot puppet to take home and enjoy some special pirate science experiments.

April – Art Adventures

Every Tuesday 7, 14, 21 and 28
Saturdays 11 and 18

Sing the colours of the rainbow and follow straight, curved and wiggly lines through the museum galleries. Spot animals, patterns and stories in artworks before creating your own masterpiece to take home.

Includes storytime, songs and hands-on art activities.

May – Terrific Transport

Every Tuesday 5, 12, 19 and 26
Saturdays 9 and 16

Toot toot! Chug chug! Explore how different types of transport move across land and sea in this playful tour for under-5s and their carers.

Sing songs, move through the galleries and create your own souvenir boat, hot air balloon or sailor hat to take home. 

June – Around the World

Every Tuesday 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30
Saturdays 13 and 20

Pack your bags for an imaginative journey across the seas. Discover different cultures and places through stories, music and movement in this special character-led tour.

After storytime, create your own collaged seabird or print a calico book bag to take home.
