Work experience at the Australian National Maritime Museum gives Year 10 students the opportunity to gain practical work skills, explore a variety of career paths, and consider school subject choices and further education.
The museum offers placements in term 2 and 4 of the school year.

Our work experience program offers Year 10 students an exciting opportunity to get behind the scenes and hands-on at the Australian National Maritime Museum. At our waterside setting in Darling Harbour, Year 10 work experience students can learn about a variety of career paths by working alongside the teams that bring the museum to life.

Key information and eligibility
This program is available to Year 10 students from New South Wales schools.
It involves a five-day placement at the museum, from 9.30 am–3.30 pm each day.
This program is open to students of all abilities and cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Please let us know how we can accommodate and support the student in the work experience application form.
How to apply
Careers advisors, teachers, homeschool educators or equivalent are asked to fill out the ANMM Year 10 Work Experience Application Form with their students interested in work experience at the museum.
Students are to provide written responses to the three student questions in the application form (maximum 150 words per answer):
- Why would you like to do work experience at the Australian National Maritime Museum?
- Why is the ocean important to you?
- What unique skills or characteristics do you think you could develop at the Australian National Maritime Museum?
Please email the completed form to education@sea.museum by the due date, 19th September 2025.
