A gorgeous painting of an Australian landmark.

In 2024 the museum is celebrating 100 years since the contract to build the Sydney Harbour Bridge was signed. We’re celebrating by showcasing a huge and appealing artwork, on display in Australia for the first time since it was painted in 1924.

This display explores Sydney’s role as a major maritime city a century ago, including naval defence and the controversial 1924 decision to scrap the pride of the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Australia
