As a migrant the first years were very hard, leaving home, family and friends, traditions and customs, everything I knew. Traveling so far away and knowing it would be a long time before I saw loved ones again broke my heart and made me sad. But I knew that coming to Australia would allow me to have more opportunities than what was available to me in my village (Kritinia Rhodes).

I was sponsored by DEME, I had to learn English for 6 months and have a full medical clearance. I was lucky to have cousins in Melbourne who helped me settle in Australia. Having a hot Christmas was strange. I found work, met my husband, and worked hard to provide for my family. Built a home, educated my children and I am proud of all that I have achieved.

I continue to volunteer as a Ward Parent at the Children’s Hospital which I am very proud of and love. I have two homes – one in my heart for Greece and one here. I love them both.
