About Sea of Light

Sea of Light brings together magic and light with a gentle soundscape to create a unique sea adventure for the whole family.
Traverse the sand with a UV torch as your paintbrush, to paint and stencil your own voyage in light. Steer ships that leave glowing paths of light in their wake as you sail them across the sea floor. Then dive below the surface to uncover glowing inflatables in hidden reef worlds.
Sea of light is an immersive phosphorescent playscape that invites participants to sketch, sail, bounce, crawl and squiggle their way through a series of creative and captivating  interactive installations.

Additional hygiene measures are in place to ensure families stay safe while enjoying creative activities. Find out more about the museum’s Covid-safe practices.

Start time: Sensory Friendly Sundays access starts at 8.30am

You are welcome to arrive anytime before 11am and stay as long as you like.

Play with archaeological dig sites, bubbles and more and create your own art works in Kids on Deck activity space (drop-in activities, open to 3pm).

Enjoy guided access with our friendly staff in the museum galleries (with exclusive access for SFS guests before 10.30am).

Sound and light levels in upper galleries have been modified to promote a more enjoyable experience up until 12.00pm today.

This is a relaxed event so guests are welcome to arrive at any time that suits their schedule. Guests are advised that the galleries will become busier and noisier towards 12pm onwards though so early morning visits will provide a more enjoyable experience.

10.00am – 12.00pm
Drop in on the Ocean Lab and enjoy water-based experiments facilitated by our ocean science volunteers.

Main doors to the museum open. If you arrive after this time you can register with our staff at the main counter and collect a sensory friendly map.

Enjoy the galleries, take a trail or enjoy a chill out time in one of our quiet spaces.

11.00am – 12.00pm
Explore what lies beneath the surface of the harbour with Kids On Deck (ages: 9 - adult)

Sensory friendly access ends.

Your ticket gives you all-day access to the museum and creative activities (activities are open to 3pm) so you are welcome to stay and play, but note that the galleries will be noisier and busier from this time.

Feedback Welcome

Sensory friendly Sunday is a new program at the museum. We'd love your feedback, so will send all attendees a short survey after the event for you to share your ideas.
